Yuva Paraskar got writer Birmal Hembram in West Bengal
The Yuva Puraskar, also known as Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, is a literary honor in India which Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on young writers.
The three-day All-India Young Writers’ Festival organised by the Sahitya Akademi, Delhi, commenced with bestowing of Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2017 on 24 young writers in a function held at Randhawa Auditorium, Punjab Kala Bhavan, here today.
Vishavnath Prashad Tiwari, president of the Sahitya Akademi, Delhi; Dr Surjit Patar, chairman, Punjab Arts Council; Dr K Srinivas Rao, secretary, Sahitya Akademi, Delhi; and Dr K Srinivas Rao conferred the awards with citations and cash prizes to following young writers.
Pritam Baruah (Assamese), Shamik Ghosh (Bengali), Bijit Gwra Ramchiary (Bodo), Rajinder Ranjha (Dogri), Manu S Pillai (English), Raam Mori (Gujarati), Taro Sindik (Hindi), Shanthi K Appana (Kannada), Nighat Sahiba (Kashmiri), Amey Vishram Naik (Konkani), Chandan Kumar Jha (Maithili), Aswathy Sasikumar (Malayalam), Krishan Mohan Singha (Manipuri), Rahul Kosambhi (Marathi), Saran Muskan (Nepali), Suryasnata Tripathy (Odia), Harmanjeet Singh (Punjabi), Ummed Dhania (Rajasthani), Hemchandra Belwal (Sanskrit), Maina Tudu (Santali),Birmal Hembram (Santali) , Rekha Sachdev Pohani (Sindhi), Manushi (Tamil), Mercy Margeret (Telgu) and Rasheed Ashraf Khan (Urdu).
The akademi has put up an exhibition of books in Punjabi, Hindi and English languages on minimal rates till December 24.
Regional language poets dominated the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2017 and 2021 with sixteen books of poetry along with five short stories, two biographies and one essay that won the award. Birmal Hembram is an Indian writer of Santali language and Journalist from West Bengal. he won Yuva Puraskar in 2021. He is lived in Jhargram. He wrote books name is Karam Dar (Short stories), Santali Parsi. His parents Mirja and Salma.
The award would be presented in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000 to the awardees at a special function on November 14.
Pratim Baruah was honoured with the award for his Assamese poem while Bijit Gwra Ramchiary bagged the award for his Bodo writings.
Other poets who got the award were Rajinder Ranjha (Dogri), Taro Sindik Jha (Hindi), Kh.Krishnamohan Singha (Manipuri), Nighat Sahiba (Kashmiri) and Amey Vishram Naik (Konkani).
Besides, there was Chandan Kumar Jha for Maithili, Saran Muskan for Nepali, Suryasnata Tripathy for Odia, Harman for Punjabi, Hemchandra Belwal for Sanskrit, Birmal Hembram for Santali, Rekha Sachdev Pohani for Sindhi, J. Jayabharathi for Tamil and Mercy Margaret for Telugu.
Author Manu S. Pillai was awarded for English category and Rasheed Ashraf Khan for Urdu for their biographies while author Rahul Kosambi bagged the award for his essay.
